Rolling and sliding dynamics in centrifugal spreading
نویسنده
چکیده
Centrifugal forcing is a usual method to spread a granular material. The dynamics of a particle in this system appears to change spectacularly according to the shape of the particle. We present a dynamical transition between a rolling and sliding regime and a purely sliding regime as a function of the friction coefficient and the elongation of the particle. This rolling/sliding motion is indeed observed, in-situ, for real particles. This simple effect of shape gives a physical interpretation able to explain the difference in the spreading velocity between round grains and elongated grains. 1 Applied Physics Letters, 2007 vol. 90, n° 2, 021918 doi : 10.1063/1.2424647 ha l-0 04 53 75 3, v er si on 1 5 Fe b 20 10 Author manuscript, published in "Applied Physics Letters 90, 2 (2007) p. 021918 p. 021918-3" DOI : 10.1063/1.2424647

Robust Sliding Mode Controller for Trajectory Tracking and Attitude Control of a Nonholonomic Spherical Mobile Robot
Based on dynamic modeling, robust trajectory tracking control of attitude and position of a spherical mobile robot is proposed. In this paper, the spherical robot is composed of a spherical shell and three independent rotors which act as the inner driver mechanism. Owing to rolling without slipping assumption, the robot is subjected to two nonholonomic constraints. The state space representatio...
متن کاملInvestigations into the Effect of Tension Between the Stands of the Finishing Mill on Width Control in a Hot Rolling Process
This paper is concerned with investigations into the effect of tension between the stands of the finishing mill on width control in a hot rolling process. An analysis is given to predict satisfactorily the variation in width due to spreading and also due to strip tension between the stands. Wusatowski's model which is developed to give an account of spreading is specified and a similar model to...

متن کاملAccuracy of Discrete Element Method Simulations: Rolling and Sliding Frictions Effects-Case study: Iron Ore Pellets
The discrete element method (DEM) has been used as a popular simulation method in order to verify the designs by visualizing how materials flow through complex equipment geometries. Although DEM simulation is a powerful design tool, finding a DEM model that includes all real material properties is not computationally feasible. In order to obtain more realistic results, particle energy loss du...
متن کاملDynamic Modeling of Rolling Element Bearings With Surface Contact Defects Using Bond Graphs
Multibody dynamics of healthy and faulty rolling element bearings were modeled using vector bond graphs. A 33 degree of freedom (DOF) model was constructed for a bearing with nine balls and two rings (11 elements). The developed model can be extended to a rolling element bearing with n elements and 3 n DOF in planar and 6 n DOF in three dimensional motions. The model incorporates the gyroscopic...
